NSW: Couple charged with kidnapping refused bail
A Sydney's court's been told a teenager was abducted and threatened with sexual assaultbefore a $94,000 ransom was demanded from her parents in China.
The woman was one of two 19-year-old Chinese students kidnapped on Friday and heldfor three days until police rescued them during a raid on a city hotel yesterday.
A young couple charged with the kidnapping offences today faced Magistrate CLARE FARNANin Central Local Court.
Eighteen-year-old Australian citizen EDISON ZHEN HU, of Allambie in Sydney's north,was refused bail.
His girlfriend, 21-year-old Chinese citizen SHAN SHAN XING, who's in Australia on astudent visa, did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
They're charged with demanding money with menaces with intention to steal and detaininga person in company with intention to obtain money.
They are accused of kidnapping the two women from their flat in Kogarah and holdingthem for 65 hours in a city hotel room, while calls were made to one of the victim's parentsin China demanding a ransom.
