Vic: Strike action did Alcoa no harm, says company

MELBOURNE, April 6 AAP - Strike action at two of aluminium maker Alcoa's Victorian
operations had not affected production, the company said today.

About 150 union members stopped work for 17 hours at the Point Henry smelter and the
Anglesea power station because of a dispute over enterprise bargaining agreements.

Alcoa spokesman Brian Wills-Johnson said the workers who downed tools at 1.45pm (AEST)
yesterday represented the entire unionised workforce at both sites for the day shift.

Mr Wills-Johnson said the strike had not caused significant damage.

"It was a short-term thing - we weren't affected," he said.

"It's after you get past a 24-hour stoppage that you get problems."

The unions include the Australian Workers Union (AWU), the Australian Manufacturing
Workers Union (AMWU) and the CEPU.

A mass meeting to be held at the Point Henry smelter today has been postponed to tomorrow.
